Mercadona, a company of physical supermarkets and online sales, opens its Zaragoza Logistics Centre after investing 45 million euros. The completion of the dry goods warehouse marks the launch of the entire new logistics centre located in the Plaza Logistics Platform in Zaragoza.
This investment effort reaffirms the company’s commitment to Aragon, where it currently has 45 stores. The company has also continued to consolidate its business activity in this region, where it opened 4 new stores in 2020, closed another 3 because they did not comply with its new quality standards, and renovated 1 store to align it with its new Efficient Store Model, ending the year with a total of 33 supermarkets under this new model. Furthermore, it continued implementing its new “Ready-to-Eat” section, available in 17 supermarkets, and making progress on its Global Fresh project.

Mercadona created 136 new stable and high-quality jobs and ended the year with a staff of 2,502 people in this Autonomous Community. In addition, in 2020, the company invested a total of 52.3 million euros to support the economic recovery of the region. Meanwhile, purchases from regional suppliers, where it collaborates with 38 Totaler Suppliers, amounted to 755 million euros.
Furthermore, the company maintains a social commitment to the residents of the areas in which it is present and operates, and last year it donated 317 tonnes of essential products to 3 food banks and 9 soup kitchens, as well as supporting several charities in Aragon, 52% more than in 2019.
