  • This measure will enter into force starting from the January payslips of the more than 96,000 employees in Spain and Portugal, in line with the CPI (Consumer Price Index) in December in each country.

The Management Committee at Mercadona, a company of physical and online supermarkets, in accordance with the company's Total Quality Model, has approved a salary increase for its entire workforce in line with the CPI (Consumer Price Index), not only for the base salary as stipulated in the Collective Agreement, but also for the workforce’s total salary including the corresponding complementary payments.

This measure will enter into force starting from the January payslips of the more than 96,000 Mercadona employees in Spain and Portugal, according to the CPI (Consumer Price Index) in December in each country. The aim is to maintain the purchasing power of all people who form part of Mercadona because they are the greatest asset among their customers; the more satisfied "The Boss", as the company internally calls the customer, the further Mercadona moves forward.

The company increases productivity by 9%

Knowing that having increased salaries in 2022 by 6.5% in Spain and 2.7% in Portugal would mean an increase to its fixed costs, the company has implemented a series of measures. Among them, improvements in the digitalisation of its processes and the commitment to raise awareness among the workforce about analysing the costs that they are involved in, measures that have led to, as the end of the year approaches, a productivity increase of 9% and cost savings of more than 200 million euro.
