  • In just four months, the company has received more than 10,000 applications for the IT Department, responsible for accelerating its ambitious Digital Transformation Project.
  • The process will remain open until March 2020 in order to add 200 more people.
  • This initiative falls within the framework of its Digital Transformation process, and within the commitment to invest € 150 million per year in the improvement of tools and computer processes.

Mercadona, a physical supermarket and on-line sales company, has recruited 200 people to its Information Technology Department in just four months after starting, last April, a process of attracting talent to strengthen this department. During this period, the company received more than 10,000 applications compatible with the different profiles required. This strategy for the selection and addition of talent carried out by the Department of Human Resources is part of the ambitious Digital Transformation Plan designed by the company, to which it plans to allocate 150 million euros annually to improve tools, processes and IT solutions.

This job creation procedure will continue at least until March 2020 with the objective of covering 200 new vacant positions and driving the company's Digital Transformation project through different computer solutions that facilitate decision making and increase the efficiency and agility of processes with unique and reliable data.

Within these latest additions, we can highlight the process carried out together with the technology company Sothis, supported by the investment company Angels, enabling 40 people from its team who already performed different functions in the company to join Mercadona in a planned way. With these appointments, Mercadona currently has an IT Department comprising 700 multidisciplinary professionals specializing in Software Engineering, both FrontEnd and BackEnd, Cloud, Site Reliability, Project Managers, Business Architecture, System Administrators, Operations, Analytics, IoT and Computer Security.

Both the people already in the team and those to be selected will not only have the opportunity to address this new challenge, but also to grow professionally within the framework of the Mercadona project, a plan that invests in people and has a Human Resources policy focused and aimed at its development.

In fact, just like the 87,000 people who currently make up the company's workforce, new workers will have permanent contracts from day one, important specific training plans and the option, in the medium term, to apply for positions of greater responsibility within Mercadona’ internal promotion policy and from which 860 people benefited in 2018.

According to Aquilino López, Manager of the IT Purchasing Division, “at Mercadona, we would like to thank the interest and effort expressed in joining this company by the more than 10,000 people who have signed up for the selection process, a process that remains open with the goal of continuing to add talent and quality in order to continue our commitment to Digital Transformation. With this technological commitment we intend to respond to the needs of our 'Bosses' and guide Mercadona towards efficiency and agility through the analysis of unique and reliable data that allows us to make the best decision.”
